Jonathan Weinberg, Self-portrait with Trump Travel Ban, 2017, Acrylic on panel, 24x18 inches.
Jonathan Weinberg is a prolific artist, author, and curator, known for his landmark exhibition Art After Stonewall, 1969-1989 presented at the Leslie-Lohman Museum in 2019 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Organized by the Columbus Museum of Art, the exhibition subsequently traveled to museums across the United States.
The SoHo Project Space is proud to present Men with Flowers, an exhibition of Weinberg’s paintings, including many works that will be on public view for the first time.
Working directly from life, with only the occasional use of his own photographs for reference, Weinberg applies rich colors with rapid, decisive brushstrokes. His resulting portraits of male nudes are imbued with an undercurrent of emotion while retaining the youthful exuberance and vitality of his subjects.
